In 2024, I spent a lot of time reflecting on the personal significance of writing. Writing makes me feel alive. When I write, I feel excited and challenged. “What do I want to say?” is then followed by “How do I say it?”: two seemingly simple questions from which art can flow. I enjoy thinking about the stories I want to share on this blog. I enjoy explaining complex topics in my technical writing. I enjoy advancing discussions.
I equally love reading the words of others. Others’ stories inspire me; they make me think. Stories connect us all. I enjoy reading what others have learned, and love the moments when I find an essay or educational resource that explains something in a way that resonates with me unlike anything else I have read. I love chatting with friends about what they have written, especially about the questions posited in friends’ writing that makes me think and wonder and imagine.
We are here in a new year: 2025. This has me thinking about what I would like to do in the coming year.
I want to continue writing, and challenge myself to explore new topics. I am eager to learn more about design. I would like to learn to play the ukulele. I hope to advocate for the wonderful personal web that we have, and to show the power of technology as a means to connect us. I hope to think more about my relationship with technology, and use those reflections to make things that empower myself, my friends, and the communities in which I participate. I hope to inspire.
In the last year, I have written many blog posts of which I am proud, redesigned my blog, and reflected and acted on my vision for how technology should be through the software I have made. I am perpetually excited about what there is next to learn, and how I can use what I learn to make calmer, more empowering technologies.
To everyone who has been along with me on the journey of my blog over the last year, thank you! I sincerely appreciate everyone who has spent time reading my blog.
I am equally appreciative of everyone who has shared something on their blog – a story, a reflection, an idea, a vision, the lens through which they see the world. Every day, seeing others write encourages me to think “What do I have to say?” With the inspiration that comes from reading, conversations, and noticing something in the world, I start writing.
Happy New Year from Scotland! I wish you the best 2025 filled with the things you love, and for you to have many moments that bring you joy.
